What is PNR Status or Passenger Name Record Number Status?
If you are new in booking tickets online or booking train tickets, you might not know what IRCTC PNR Status actually means. PNR is an abbreviation for Personal or Passenger Name Record. The PNR Number has 10 digits which are used to access the data associated with your PNR Number like your ticket booking status, which is also known as the PNR Status.
PNR status will tell you all the information that is related to your PNR Number. It will tell you whether your ticket has been confirmed or not. It will tell you the information like RAC, WL which are acronyms for Reservation against Cancellation and Waiting List. All this information will be fetched from the IRCTC PNR Status server.
All reserved tickets are given a unique PNR Number when you book them. To keep track of your PNR Status, you have to check it continuously on sites like PNR Status. You can do the same on this site. Just Type your PNR Number in the form that has been provided and click on Get PNR Status, then the page will take you to the result page and you will be able to check your PNR Status.
Abbreviations and Their Meanings
RAC (Reservation against cancellation): RAC means, you will be given a seat to sit (not sleeper) initially and later you will be given a seat only if some reservations are cancelled. For example if your status is RAC14, it means you will get a sleeper only if 14 reservations are canceled. But an RAC status means your seat is confirmed.
WL (Waiting List Status): These tickets will be confirmed only against cancellations made before the preparation of reservation charts. And if your status remains WL, you will not get a seat.
CNF (Confirmed): This status means your ticket is confirmed and you will get a seat.
Note: PNR Status is independent for each passenger.
